AWARDS
A friend told me a story about once called to receive an envelope with
R3.50 for getting position 3 out of all the standard 4’s student.
It was a lot of money for child going to school those days. Most importantly
that day his efforts and persistence had paid off and he got recognized
for it. He mentioned how it is surprising to often go back to that day
every time he doubts himself. That day restores confidence. I wish we
could have done more
of that in our schools.
The awards we give address this very need. Giving kids in school something
that will restore their confidence and believe that they can achieve
what they once achieved before. Giving them something they and their
parents can be proud of.
We work together with principals to arrange award ceremonies. We not
only cover the academics we also cover extra curricular activities like
chess and sports. The power
of recognition can make a student who is not doing well in academics
and has received something for sports gain confidence and apply the
same persistence and practice to his studies. It is very unlikely that
a student who wins an award drops out of school.
The awards also motivate other students to stretch themselves so they
can see themselves receiving that award in front of their peers.
Please see a sample certificate that we give
to students.
We also give small trophies to students who achieve position one or
leads the team to victory in sports.
2006 Alafang Awards
Our first award ceremony for Alafang high school was a success
with full attendance.
Our organization was represented by an Alafang high school alumni, and
an entrepreneur Mr. Vincent Msimango.
Awards were given for academic excellence, sport, and extra
curricular activities. We sponsored trophies and created certificates.
As you can also see from pictures, parents
also attended and the hall was packed. The ceremony was for grade 8 to
Grade 12.
